George Hurley “Squirrel” Self, Sr., age 79, of Hot Springs, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 23, 2009, at ST. Joseph Hospital in Ashville, NC. His courageous battle with cancer is over.

Dale Lee Shade, age 60, of Cosby. passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He attended First United Methodist Church of Gatlinburg. He was a retired electrician, Local 82, out of Dayton, OH for 33 years.

A. D. Messer, age 74, of Newport, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Sydney Mae Miller, infant daughter of Jonathon and Jennifer Miller, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her great grandfather James Ferman “Redbone” Carrell, great-great grandparents Hubert and Reva Butler.

Hazel Reese Thornton, age 93, of Newport passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at her home. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Newport and one of the founding members of Smokey Mountain Art & Craft Guild.

Algoma (Abbie) Buckner, age 89, of White Pine, went to be with God on Thursday, October 8, 2009. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in White Pine. She was a loving and devoted mother. She was retired from Elmer Hospital in New Jersey.

Lois Josephine McCoig Cox, 73. Went to be with our LORD on October 8, 2009 at her devoted son’s Ernie Cox’s home. Some called her Lois, Jo, Josie, Momma, Mamaw, Sister, or Nurse but so very many of you called her your best friend.
