Charles “Alf” Ledford

Charles “Alf” Ledford, age 70, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Johnson City Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother Vergie Ledford and father Clyde Ledford.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Barnett and Stephene Ledford; 2 grandchildren, Brittany Miller and Becky Miller; brothers, Bud, Dewey and Thurman Ledford; sisters, Lena Mae Fowler, Nancy Stuart and Betty Duncan; special friend, John Clark; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Bawgus officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family will meet on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Ray’s Chapel Church Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. interment, where he will travel by a horse drawn carriage to his final resting place.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Niswonger Children’s Hospital 400 N. State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City, TN 37604-6094.

    You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. My father passed May 2006 from a difficult and prolonged illness. This is not easy to go through.
