I am so fortunate to have known my Great Aunts. As one of my Great Aunts, Aunt Georgia will remain in my heart as a gracious lady who was beautiful inside and out. In 1998, when she met my son, Noah, she was excited to have a baby named after her father. This past summer, we looked at pictures of her parents, brothers and sisters. Her face lit up when looking at her family. I am saddened by her loss. I hope Cheryll and her family will be able to find comfort knowing Aunt Georgia lived a full life, touching the lives of many.

As Cheryll and I grew up together in Whitesburg, the Hicks home was a favorite gathering place for a group of lively kids who enjoyed going there to play games and have fun together. I’m sure the Hickses weren’t all that thrilled to see so much of us, but they always made us feel welcome. After Mr. Hicks died much too early in life, I was so impressed that Mrs. Hicks took such loving care of the new home the two of them built together in Whitesburg. Though I don’t get back to East Tennessee as much as I would like, my heart remains there. Mrs. Hicks was blessed to live a long and meaningful life — one that meant so much to so many others, including myself. To Cheryll and family, I offer my sincerest sympathy and want them to know that I continue to remember them in my prayers.
