Nell Pierce Roberts
Nell Pierce Roberts, age 94, of Dayton, TN, formerly of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Rhea Medical Center after suffering a brief illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport.
Nell was born on September 6, 1915 in Knoxville, TN, she later moved to Waterville, NC after her marriage and before moving to Newport. She taught music in public schools at Grassy Fork and Hartford for many years. She also drove the school bus in that area. The last six years of her life was spent living with her son and daughter-in-law in Dayton, TN due to health problems.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Roberts, one sister, two brothers, and niece; Anna Lynn Lakin.
She is survived by her son, James M. Roberts, Jr. (Alda); grandson, Jamie Roberts (Carmen); 4 great grandchildren, Noah, Seth, Luke, and Susan; 1 niece, Wanda Carr (Jack); 2 great nieces, Susie and Becky; 2 great nephews, Mitch and Mark; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Boggan and Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Newport, 261 E. Broadway, Newport, Tennessee 37821.
